David Neal said the Home Office was ‘dysfunctional’ and in need of ‘reform’ The Home Office has been blasted as ‘dysfunctional’ by the ex-borders watchdog. David Neal, the former independent chief inspector of borders and immigration, said the department was in need of widespread reform. Mr Neal was dismissed on the orders of Home Secretary James Cleverly last month after revealing a major new border security farce in the Daily Mail. He disclosed how the UK Border Force had failed to inspect hundreds of private jets which landed at London City Airport last year despite being assessed as ‘high-risk’. ‘The Home Office is dysfunctional, the Home Office needs reform,’ Mr Neal told the BBC’s Today Podcast. Mr Neal, the former head of the Royal Military Police, expressed fears the watchdog role would remain unfilled for months while a successor is appointed. ‘There will be no scrutiny of small boats, there will be no scrutiny of adults at risk in detention which is a controversial area, there will be no publishing of the Rwanda material,’ he said. ‘Much of the debate is dominated by asylum, but actually the protection of our borders is a 24/7 activity, that affects every person in this country and that’s why it’s so critical.’ Thirteen of Mr Neal’s reports exposing a series of blunders in the borders and immigration system were belatedly published two weeks ago, on the same day as the findings of the inquiry into Sarah Everard’s murder by a serving police officer. The former chief inspector said that despite losing his job he had been ‘absolutely vindicated’, adding: ‘I’ve done the right thing, my conscience is absolutely clear.’

The service has proved to be very profitable, with TPP recording an £80m turnover and profit before tax of £40m in the year to March 2023, according to Companies House documents. Mr Hester, its sole director, netted a salary of £510,000. He appeared at number 321 on the 2023 Sunday Times Rich List, with the newspaper estimating his wealth at £415m.

The legal right of self-determination of the Palestinian people originates in the “sacred trust” obligations of Article 22 of the League Covenant, part of the Versailles Treaty. Palestine an “A” class Mandate under British colonial rule was, after the First World War, supposed to have its existence as an independent State “provisionally recognized”: a sui generis right of self-determination11. The United Kingdom and other members of the League Council attempted to bypass this, incorporating the 1917 Balfour Declaration commitment to establishing a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine into the instrument stipulating how the Mandate would operate12. However, the Council had no legal power to bypass the Covenant in this way. It acted ultra vires, and the relevant provisions were, legally, void13. There was and is no legal basis in that Mandate instrument for either a specifically Jewish State in Palestine, or the United Kingdom’s failure to discharge the “sacred trust” obligation to implement Palestinian self-determination.
Netanyahu’s Likud party said in response that Schumer shouldn’t ‘undermine’ the Israeli government On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) slammed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as an “obstacle to peace” and called for new elections in Israel. “As a lifelong supporter of Israel, it has become clear to me: The Netanyahu coalition no longer fits the needs of Israel after October 7. The world has changed, radically, since then, and the Israeli people are being stifled right now by a governing vision that is stuck in the past,” Schumer said in a speech on the Senate floor. Schumer said he believes “a new election is the only way to allow for a healthy and open decision-making process about the future of Israel, at a time when so many Israelis have lost their confidence in the vision and direction of their government.” Schumer’s comments drew a sharp rebuke from Netanyahu’s Likud party. “Israel is an independent and proud democracy that elected Prime Minister Netanyahu, not a banana republic,” the party said in a statement. “It is expected of Senator Schumer to respect Israel’s elected government and not undermine it. This is always true, but even more so during wartime.”
At least 20 Palestinians were killed and over 100 wounded by Israeli fire on Thursday evening while they were awaiting aid in northern Gaza, eyewitnesses have said. The Palestinian health ministry in Gaza said that 20 dead bodies and 155 wounded people have arrived at al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza alone. It said that it is working to retrieve more dead bodies. The ministry added that it expects the death toll to rise because of “the seriousness of the injuries” of individuals reaching Gaza’s hospitals. A journalist with Al Jazeera Arabic reported that nearly 50 Palestinians were killed. Several news outlets also reported that dozens more were wounded. MEE could not independently verify the figure. The attack took place when an Israeli helicopter fired on a crowd of thousands of Palestinians waiting for aid at the Kuwait roundabout in Gaza City. Mohammed, a local resident, told Middle East Eye they typically gather in the area around sunset to collect flour for their children from the aid trucks. “We gathered and we were all shot at, there was no mercy,” he said. “We were slaughtered, they killed my brother. There are over 50 people killed, all severed limbs. There was no mercy at all. It was all just for some flour.”

He had been on the files of Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Trust for eight years and was freed from jail unsupervised weeks before he killed. The Manchester University study showed 10 of the killings between 2001-11 were random and 10 of the 1,216 killed were children. The study also showed that suicides among mentally ill patients are increasing – from 1,175 in 2010 to 1,333 in 2011. And figures show that 189 mentally ill patients committed suicide after having comitted murder. Experts blamed cuts in mental health budgets and pointed out that in the last 30 years the number of in-patient beds for mental health patients was slashed from 87,396 to 23,208. Marjorie Wallace CBE, chief executive of mental health charity SANE said: “What is truly shocking and disappointing is that the same factors have been identified case after case. “The lack of provision of beds, together with the budget cuts means health care trusts are taking a gamble,” she added. However, the study published in July did find the number of murder victims has fallen in recent years from 106 in 2009 to 76 in 2010.
Bristol-based pastor Dia Moodley displayed signs saying ‘abortion is murder’ and insulted other religions A police force last night admitted its attempt to ‘silence’ a Christian street preacher for criticising Hindus, Muslims and atheists was ‘disproportionate’. Avon and Somerset Police tried to prevent Bristol-based pastor Dia Moodley from ‘passing comments on any other religion or comparing them to Christianity’. It also sought to stop him displaying ‘graphic material’. The Evangelist fundamentalist had become known to the police after holding up signs saying ‘abortion is murder’ and mocking followers of other religions for failing to acknowledge ‘God’s truth’. On other occasions the creationist held up signs that read ‘all lives matter’, ‘evolution is a lie’ and ‘God created them man and woman’ – leading to a hostile reaction from passers-by. Mr Moodley, who belongs to the Spirit of Life church, had arranged a meeting with the local policing team after claiming officers had ‘done nothing’ when members of the public ‘spat’ at him and ‘destroyed’ his signs. In turn, Bristol police issued the notice warning that the churchgoer’s behaviour was having a detrimental effect on other Bristolians’ quality of life. Officers said the preacher had displayed ‘graphic material’, which included showing images purporting to be mutilated or aborted foetuses, and ‘persistently’ made ‘abusive and insulting statements’ in a public space. Police said this had led to crowds becoming ‘hostile and responding aggressively’ to Mr Moodley and his congregation. The force said the warning – which was issued in October 2021 and expired after six months – followed complaints about the preacher’s conduct that had continued for a number of years. In the warning, the force told the Evangelist, or anyone delivering sermons on his behalf, to refrain from using any amplifier or speaker system while preaching or playing recordings of sermons in Bristol. Police also said he should not display graphics or images that are, or purport to be, mutilated or aborted foetuses. Mr Moodley took legal action over the restrictions with the support of the Free Speech Union and ADF International. This criticised the police’s notice telling Mr Moodley he could only deliver one one-hour sermon a day that had already been approved by Avon and Somerset Police….

Labour believes it has found a new dividing line with the Conservatives at the next general election – National Insurance. Both the Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and the shadow work and pensions secretary Liz Kendall road-tested it today, when they denounced the Conservatives’ long-term aim of abolishing National Insurance Contributions. The party did not oppose new cuts to National Insurance in last week’s Budget. But the Labour leadership believes they have found a way to turn the tables on the Conservatives when it comes to economic competence. Labour is still licking its wounds over its £28bn green prosperity plan – a pledge that was diluted last month under sustained attack over how it would be funded. So, Labour has been quick to attach a price tag – a whopping £46bn – to the Conservatives’ “ambition” to do away with National Insurance. This was branded by Sir Keir as an “unfunded pledge”. This is despite Chancellor Jeremy Hunt making clear it would only happen when fiscal and economic conditions allow – and that it could not happen overnight.

This is because your body still has available calories/fuel from your previous meal before you started fasting. After about 12 hours of fasting, your body will start to run out of stored muscle and liver glycogen. Physically, you will not necessarily feel a detectable difference in how your body feels when ketosis first kicks in unless you are trying to do vigorous physical activity. Stage 2: 18 Hours Of Water Fasting Although the onset of ketosis will occur during the first stage of water fasting after about 12 hours with no caloric intake, it’s not until about 18 hours that most people are truly in a state of ketosis. Here, your body is primarily burning fat for fuel because glycogen stores are almost entirely depleted. In second place is the candidate from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Nikolai Kharitonov, who received 4.22% of the votes, followed by the representative of the New People party Vladislav Davankov with a result of 4.04%. In fourth place is the LDPR candidate Leonid Slutsky with 3.16% of the votes. Thus, Putin is guaranteed to win the elections, and the second round will not take place. To win in the first round, a candidate must receive more than half the votes of the voters who took part in the voting.

According to former British ambassador to Russia, Sir Laurie Bristow, it is the transition to Vladimir Putin’s successor – whenever that might happen. “I don’t see any threat in the near future or even the medium future to Mr Putin’s position, but we can’t escape from the fact that the biggest question of all in Russian politics has, for some time, been the succession. “He’s 71-years-old, an aging KGB man… part of the problem in Russia is nobody knows how or when or in whose favour the transition to Mr Putin’s successor will happen. “I don’t think anything will fundamentally change in Russia until that happens and quite possibly not for some time after that but that’s the question everybody knows is out there.” Sir Laurie told Sky News the war in Ukraine hasn’t all been going Russia’s way. They have lost a lot of ships in the Black Sea, some important electronic warfare surveillance aircraft in the last few weeks, and the Ukrainians are taking the battle into Russia by attacking things such as oil refineries. The most important thing now, he added, is for the US Congress to release a $61bn military aid package for Ukraine. “Without that, Ukraine will be starved of ammunition. It won’t decisively turn the war against them but it does mean a lot more Ukrainians will be killed resisting Russian aggression than otherwise. Putin, Sir Laurie said, is “betting on the west and the US losing patience, losing the will – that’s the thing we most need to guard against”. He added: “The thing everybody needs to understand here is a negotiated agreement with Mr Putin is not an agreement – he breaks agreements. A ceasefire with Mr Putin does not lead to the ceasing of fire. The most important thing of all here is to make sure he cannot prevail militarily.” Sir Laurie was British ambassador to Russia from 2016 until 2020.
Fresh from his election to parliament to the British parliament, MP George Galloway spoke with RT on Tuesday about the state of media freedom in Britain and London’s disastrous policies in the Middle East and Ukraine. Galloway trounced both Tory and Labour candidates in last week’s Rochdale by-election, winning twice as many votes than both major parties combined. PM Rishi Sunak denounced the result as “beyond alarming” and a threat to “our democracy itself.” As Galloway pointed out, however, he has been elected to Parliament a total of seven times – far more than Sunak or Labour leader Keir Starmer. “These people are hypocrites. Things like democracy, human rights, rule of law, rules-based international order, it’s just lipstick on a pig. They wipe the lipstick off whenever they no longer feel the need to look prettier,” he claimed. “As Sunak’s speech outside Number 10 [Downing Street] on Friday about my election makes clear, it’s not beyond them even to cancel elections,” he added. British authorities have banned RT and the Iranian PressTV outright, refused to renew the license of China’s CGTN, and blocked outlets like Venezuela’s TeleSur. “The reason is pretty simple if you think about it: Too many people were watching these TV channels. Too many people were watching RT. Not just in Britain, but even more so in Germany. That is why RT was closed down. Because too many of the public were watching it. The annual survey asked how much people trust the media “to do what is right”.- The UK saw the biggest drop in trust in the media and was the least-trusted out of 28 countries surveyed for the latest Edelman Trust Barometer. The UK fell to the bottom of the ranking, with 31% of people saying they trusted the media in a November survey – a drop of six percentage points since the 2023 Trust Barometer. PR firm Edelman did not speculate about the reasons for the UK’s particular fall but in the past couple of years Tiktok has rapidly risen as a news source, Prince Harry has successfully exposed patterns of historical phone-hacking at Mirror Group Newspapers and won the right to take an unlawful information gathering claim against the Daily Mail’s publisher to trial, and the BBC (Huw Edwards), ITV (Phillip Schofield) and GB News (Dan Wootton) have all been hit with presenter scandals. Respondents were asked to score institutions by “how much you trust that institution to do what is right”. The UK’s figure is comparable to the 33% who said they have faith in the media in the latest Digital News Report from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.
The House passed a bill that will allow the President to ban TikTok without an ownership change. Opponents of the legislation warned that it will give the executive a massive amount of power to control online discourse. The bill now heads to the Senate. President Joe Biden says he will sign the deal if it reaches his desk. The “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act,” introduced by GOP Rep. Mike Gallagher and Democratic Rep.Raja Krishnamoorthi, would order TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, to divest its shares from the company within six months or face an effective ban in the US. The bill passed the House 352 – 65 opposed. The bill had bipartisan support, with 197 Republicans and 155 Democrats voting for it. Proponents of the bill, such as Rep. Elise Stefanik, argue Beijing uses TikTok to influence young Americans. The New York Congresswoman said she co-sponsored the act because of “TikTok’s attempt to mobilize young Americans on behalf of the [Chinese Communist Party].” Critics of the bill argue that it was rushed and will grant the President too much power. The bill was reportedly drafted with “technical support” from administration staffers and passed through the House Energy and Commerce Committee unanimously last Thursday with bipartisan backing. Florida Republican Matt Gaetz posted on X, “Banning TikTok is the right idea. But this legislation was overly broad, rushed and unavailable for amendment or revision. This is no way to run a railroad (or the internet).” Congresswoman Ilhan Oman (D-MN) explained there were constitutional concerns. “Not only are there 1st amendment concerns, this is bad policy,” she said to explain her vote against the bill. Thomas Massie (R-KY) slammed the bill as a “trojan horse” for censorship. He points to sections of the legislation that allow the President to ban websites. “The President will be given the power to ban WEB SITES, not just Apps,” the Congressman posted on X. “The person breaking the new law is deemed to be the U.S. (or offshore) INTERNET HOSTING SERVICE or App Store, not the “foreign adversary.”
UK newspaper publishers could be in line for payments from Google and Facebook worth £170m a year if the UK passes Australia-style legislation There are “dangerous levels of concentrated ownership” in the UK media, according to a new report which seeks to answer the question ‘who owns the news?’. The “Who Owns the UK Media?” 2023 report, published by the Media Reform Coalition at Goldsmiths University, found that three companies – DMG Media, News UK and Reach – control 90% of the UK’s national newspaper market. The analysis found that while the combined average circulation of UK national dailies fell by 6% between 2020 and 2022, Metro, owned by DMG, has since the last report in March 2021 joined the Daily Mail and News UK’s The Sun as leading titles in the national newspaper market by circulation, with each accounting for around one-fifth of the share of total daily circulation. Report author Tom Chivers used average ABC circulation figures for 2022 and for publishers which keep their ABC secret (The Sun, Guardian, Times and Telegraph titles) he estimated their likely circulation based on trends and company statements. The data suggests that if DMG Media were to succeed in its expected bid to acquire Telegraph Media Group it would increase its print market share from 42% to 47%.
Veteran trade union leader Arthur Scargill has come under fire for calling Israel a “fascist state” during a speech marking the 40th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike in Doncaster. The former National Union of Mineworkers’ leader, who is now 86, led the parade through Dunscroft and Stainforth on Saturday, with hundreds of ex-miners and their families as well as newly elected and outspoken MP George Galloway joining the march. But Mr Scargill has come under fire for a speech delivered after the march at Hatfield Pit Club. He told the audience: “It is terrible that the fascist state of Israel has continuously bombed and shelled Gaza, the West Bank and East Jersualem for nearly five months. “These territories are the land of the Palestine, which Israel has unlawfully occuiped since 1967 and unelss Israel withdraws, I call on other nations to force back this fascist state.”

Gas-fired power stations will be funded by bigger payments to plant operators Millions of British households could see their energy bills go up by £200 under plans announced by Rishi Sunak on Tuesday to build more gas-fired power stations. Ministers warned that Britain faces ‘the genuine prospect of blackouts’ if new gas stations are not built to boost energy security. However, experts at Aurora Energy Research say the policy will result in a £5billion bill that would fall on consumers with each household paying an extra £178 spread out over a decade or more. Government documents published on Tuesday confirmed that cost of the gas-fired power stations will be funded by bigger payments to plant operators, meaning higher energy bills for homes and businesses. Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho said that the Government will ‘stand with’ electricity generators as they invest in building more gas-fired power stations.

The President of the Board of Trade, Michael Heseltine, has announced up to 31 out of 50 remaining deep mines face closure. Mr Heseltine promised an extra £1bn from the Treasury to meet the cost of redundancies and help mining communities. Arthur Scargill, president of the National Union of Mineworkers urged miners to fight the government and called the layoffs a “savage, brutal act of vandalism”. Robin Cook, Labour’s trade spokesman, said the cuts were a “bad decision” not only for the local communities but for tax payers and electricity consumers who would pick up the inevitable costs. But any suggestion that the UK should follow Germany’s lead in preserving its coalfields with extra subsidies was dismissed by Mr Heseltine.

Measurements taken by What Car? magazine found that some of the latest electric vehicles (EV) have up to a third less battery life when than official figures advertised in brochures and online suggest. They found that when the cars are driven in real-world conditions, particularly in colder temperatures, their batteries go flat faster. Some cars showed battery shortfalls of close to 40 per cent – or 100 miles – of what is advertised. But which models showed the most significant shortages? And which ones performed the best? MailOnline has ranked each EV below based on its performance in the real-world investigation. On average, the range of the electric cars was 29.9 per cent less than advertised, with the £57,000 Lexus UX 300e Takumi recording the biggest shortfall – 100 miles less than its official 273-mile figure. The most expensive electric car tested – a £74,000 Lexus RZ 450e Takumi – recorded a battery shortfall of 36.7 per cent, which is the second most significant of all twelve cars analysed, going flat after 159 miles when it is advertised to reach 251. The Volkswagen ID 7 Pro Match, priced at £51,550, had a real-life range of 254 miles, 33.6 per cent less than claimed, and the third-highest shortfall overall.
The biggest strike in the post-war era (at its height, 142,000 mineworkers were involved), it was also one of the bitterest industrial disputes in British history The strike ended on 3 March 1985 with the NUM having failed to achieve concessions from the government Kinnock met Arthur Scargill, the president of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), within weeks of taking office. He said they agreed to campaign together for a new plan for coal, but that understanding was shattered the following March when Scargill and the NUM leadership backed a strike without a pit head ballot. By the early 1990s, British Coal’s output and efficiency were at record levels, but the power firms were moving towards cheaper imported coal. In 1992 Michael Heseltine, then President of the Board of Trade, announced a round of 31 pit closures and compulsory redundancies. Arthur Scargill and the other miners’ union leaders were back on the streets, this time not picketing – but marching through London evoking widespread public sympathy. Heseltine still believes there was no alternative but to go ahead with the closures. “I did everything within my legal and reasonable powers to persuade them, but they simply said we can buy coal cheaper on the markets and no deal was done, so there was no market for anything other than a fraction of British deep-mined coal. That led me to the uncomfortable, controversial decision that I had to close 31 pits.” When the remaining pits were privatised they were effectively consigned to a slow death, having to make do with short-term contracts that meant they lacked investment and did not have the capacity to develop.

Counter-terrorism police encouraged an autistic 13-year-old boy in his fixation on Islamic State in an undercover operation after his parents sought help from the authorities. The boy, given the pseudonym Thomas Carrick, was later charged with terror offences after an undercover officer “fed his fixation” and “doomed” the rehabilitation efforts Thomas and his parents had engaged in, a Victorian children’s court magistrate found. Thomas spent three months in custody before he was granted bail in October 2022, after an earlier bail was revoked because he failed to comply with conditions. Thomas, an NDIS recipient with an IQ of 71, was first reported to police by Victoria’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and then by his parents because of his fixation with Islamic State, which included him accessing extremist material online and making threats to other students. On 17 April 2021, his parents went to a police station and asked for help because Thomas was watching Islamic State-related videos on his computer and had asked his mother to buy bomb-making ingredients such as sulphur and acetone. Thomas was investigated and charged with two terror offences by the Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT), which comprises Australian federal police, Victoria police and Asio members. The court granted a permanent stay on the charges in October last year, but a copy of the decision has only recently been published. “The community would not expect law enforcement officers to encourage a 13-14 year old child towards racial hatred, distrust of police and violent extremism, encouraging the child’s fixation on ISIS,” magistrate Lesley Fleming said in the decision. “The community would not expect law enforcement to use the guise of a rehabilitation service to entice the parents of a troubled child to engage in a process that results in potential harm to the child. “The conduct engaged in by the JCTT and the AFP falls so profoundly short of the minimum standards expected of law enforcement offices [sic] that to refuse this [stay] application would be to condone and encourage further instances of such conduct.” Fleming found the JCTT also deliberately delayed charging Thomas with offences until after he turned 14, as it made it harder for him to use the defence of doli incapax, which refers to the concept that a child is not criminally responsible for their actions. It is important to note that Von Neutegem was recently found not criminally responsible for his attack due to a mental disorder (schizophrenia). The recruitment of individuals that display mental illness or unstable personalities is an intentional tactic of O9A, divergent from other terrorist groups such as al Qaeda and ISIS who seek to weed out these individuals. The O9A mythos presents psychologic instability as operationally useful; these individuals are brought into a sphere of influence and groomed into resources and pawns who can conduct chaotic violence on their behalf. Another common theme is sexual violence, especially against minors. O9A ideology promotes the idea of challenging norms and societal taboos, something that is said to shackle humans to their current degenerative state of being and keeps them from transcending. The sexual assault of a minor is generally something that is abhorred by most societies, and is as such a strategic tactic for O9A adherents to further disengage from traditional society. This is demonstrated by the cases of Angel Almeida in the United States and Ryan Fleming in the United Kingdom. Other O9A-related criminal actions are connected to individuals’ undertaking of insight roles. Ethan Melzer, for example, used his role as a military officer to pass vital intelligence to other O9A affiliates, and even attempted to murder his fellow U.S. service members by sharing intel with jihadi terrorists. Another individual of interest is Nicholas Welker, also known online as King ov Wrath, who joined the militant accelerationist group Feuerkrieg Division for his insight role, and was recently arrested for making death threats against a journalist. Additional individuals display indicators of potential O9A association, however law enforcement cataloging of evidence often overlooks O9A iconography and significance due to lack of understanding. For example, Thomas Mair, the murderer of British MP Jo Cox, is reported to have literature associated with white supremacy, ancient runes, and Ariosophy. Due to their age, some O9A associated arrests in the U.K. are downplayed. In 2019, a Durham teenager associated with O9A was arrested on terrorism charges for plotting antisemitic attacks against the “Jewish system.” Lastly, Brenton Tarrant, the perpetrator of the Christchurch massacre, displayed multiple behaviors consistent with the “adept” pathway in O9A (e.g., global travel, insight roles, extreme physical fitness, and esoteric philosophy). Conclusion – As a radicalization vector and movement, the Order of Nine Angles prioritizes the infiltration of pre-radicalized spaces to spread their accelerationist belief system with the aim of mobilizing individuals into conducting what is often sexual and terroristic violence. The overlap of O9A’s esoteric and occult practices with spiritual fascism frameworks—especially that deriving from Julius Evola’s militant interpretation of the perennialist religious movement Traditionalism—has allowed O9A ideology, concepts, practices, and content to find fertile ground in the white supremacist and neofascist community that dominates Terrorgram. As with Julius Evola, O9A uses this ideal of extreme violence as an act of spiritual transcendence from mundane and sentimental humanity. Likewise, they share in Evola’s belief in a concept of cyclical time that corresponds to an element of human civilization, with the current aeon representing a malign Jewish influence that must be violently combatted to reach a new age of human existence. As militant accelerationist milieus continue to network and share ideas, the influence of O9A has likewise grown and manifested itself on an explicit level within the ideologies, propaganda, and praxis of terrorist organizations and implicitly through infiltration of accelerationist groups and occult communities.
